This is a quick and easy way to silence a squeaky door hinge using just a bar of soap.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • bar of soap
  1. Step 1

Locate that squeaky door, the one that wakes you up in the middle of the night when someone opens it, and give it one or two last squeaks.

  2. Step 2

Go in the bathroom and find a bar of soap or the last little bit of a well used bar of soap. Make sure you have enough to do all the hinges on the door.

  3. Step 3

Take the bar of soap and rub it up and down and all around the hinge pressing it firmly into the cracks. Gently open and close the door at the same time you are rubbing the soap on the hinge. Make sure to really work the soap into the hinge. Wipe off the excess soap and repeat the process if needed. Be sure to do all hinges on the door.

Tips & Warnings
  • Liquid hand soap will work but the squeak will return much sooner than using bar soap.
  • Store this bar of soap in a sandwich bag inside your toolbox for the next squeaky door.
