This is a quick and easy appetizer that is a favorite at our family or holiday gatherings. You can whip this recipe up in minutes well in advance of the party, pop it into the refrigerator to chill, and serve it as soon as guests arrive.

It is best when made with real crab meat. For those extra special occasions, you can substitute fresh crab meat for the canned meat. The Old Gray Mare suggests you use at least one cup of the fresh crab meat to get the most fabulous taste.

Make this appetizer and one or two more of your favorites and you'll be off to one great party.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 Can (6½ oz) Crab Meat 12 oz Pkg Cream Cheese 1 Tbsp Worcester Sauce 2 Tbsp Mayonnaise 2 Tsp Lemon Juice 1 Bottle Chili Sauce 1 Small Onion 1 Tsp Garlic Powder Pinch of Salt Dash of Pepper
  1. Step 1

Blend the cream cheese, Worcestershire sauce, mayonnaise, and lemon juice by hand.

  2. Step 2

Then, also by hand, mix in the onion, garlic power, salt and pepper.

  3. Step 3

Spread the combined mixture on a shallow plate.

  4. Step 4

Pour the chili sauce over the spread.

  5. Step 5

Layer the crab meat on top of the spread and sauce.

  6. Step 6

Decorate with small sprigs of fresh parsley.

  7. Step 7

Chill. This appetizer should remain chilled until it is served.

  8. Step 8

    Serve with crackers.

  9. Step 9

Enjoy watching people gobble your appetizer!

Tips & Warnings
  • We like to have a decorative plate or design for certain occasions. At Christmas we form the layers in the shape of a Christmas tree. The parsley acts as tree decorations.
  • At Easter, the shape of the appetizer starts out as a large egg shape or even a common bunny shape.
  • At Halloween, it's as simple as a hissing black cat shape. We like the oohs and aahs.
  • Sometimes we use fresh steamed crab meat. Carefully pick the meat to be sure no shell is added with the lump meat.
  • Adjust the amount of chili sauce to your own taste buds.
