Things You'll Need:
- Weather stripping, measuring tape, scissors or razor knife, your door of course
-
Step 1
First purchase the weather stripping from your hardware store or building supply center. If you don't have one near you Dollar General and places such as them carry the weather stripping also.
-
Step 2
Open your exterior door and measure from the top of the door jamb in front of the door stop to the bottom of the sweep on both sides. I mean the hinge side and the lock part side.
-
Step 3
Cut these two pieces to the length you have measured using your razor knife or scissors.
-
Step 4
Peel off a small piece of the weather stripping.
-
Step 5
Starting at the top in front of the door stop place the weather stripping in place. (The door stop is where your door sits against when closed). Make sure you take your time and keep it flush to the door jamb in front of the door stop.
-
Step 6
Now measure between the two pieces you already have installed at the top of your door in front of the door stop.
-
Step 7
Cut your stripping and once again peel it off and be careful to make it all flush with the jamb and the door stop.
-
Step 8
Shut the door and you are done.
