Keyless entry technology has been a popular feature in cars since the 1990s. Although most of the technical bugs have been worked out, keyless entry is subject to malfunction at times. All 2008 GM vehicles use the same technology for their keyless entry systems. And troubleshooting the remote works the same way on every GM vehicle.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Replacement battery
  • Dull knife
  1. Step 1

Check your remote to see if it has lost its programming. You can do this by turning your ignition to the "On" position without starting the vehicle. All 2008 models have an integrated remote programming option within the driver's information center.

  2. Step 2

Toggle the information button labeled with "I" until the message "Press to Relearn Remote Key" appears. Hold the "Set" button on your information center until "Remote Learning Active" appears.

  3. Step 3

Hold the unlock and lock buttons on your keyless remote for 15 seconds until you hear a chime. This verifies the remote is programmed to the vehicle. If the system doesn't chime or still does not work, another problem exists with your keyless entry.

  4. Step 4

Use a dull knife to separate the two halves of the remote. Pull the battery out and take it to an electronics store to purchase a replacement. Install the new battery and follow the steps above once again.

Tips & Warnings
  • If none of the solutions works for you, the remote likely will require replacement. Check with your local dealer to purchase a replacement. Try pressing the panic alarm button on your keyless remote. If the alarm works, there may be a problem with your door locks rather than with your remote.
