DirecTV is a satellite alternative to standard cable TV. It typically provides the same channels and service of cable, but usually at a lower price. Like other cable providers, DirectTV provides shows on demand, or in DirecTV's terms, DOD (DirecTV on Demand). To watch DOD, you will have to purchase the extra service from your DirecTV provider.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • DirecTV HD DVR receiver
  • Router box
  • Ethernet cable
  1. Step 1

Connect the router box to the DirecTV HD DVR recorder via an Ethernet cable. Insert the Ethernet cable into one of the available ports on the router and plug the other end into the Ethernet port on the HD DVR.

  2. Step 2

Power on both devices (if the power had been turned off) and press the "Menu" button on the DirecTV remote. When the menu comes up, select "Parentel" followed by "FAVs & Setup."

  3. Step 3

Choose "Network," then "Connect Now." The DVR receiver will now connect to the router box. Click "Continue" once notified of the connection being complete. Click "Done" to complete the DOD setup. It may take up to 24 hours for all the menus to be updated.
