Things You'll Need:
- Christmas Cards (12 or more)
- Circle Cutter
- Cutting Mat
- Scissors
- Ruler
- Scoring Tool
- Tacky Glue
- Scrap Paper
- Pencil
-
Step 1
Cut out 20 circles from the holiday cards you have collected. For a 4" diameter ornament, we need to use 2" circles. I found it easier to cut the circles using a circle cutter and cutting mat, but you could also trace the circles and cut them out with scissors.
-
Step 2
On a scrap piece of paper, draw an equilateral triangle that will fit inside the circles you have just cut out. With a pencil, trace this triangle on the back of each circle, taking care to center it on each circle.
-
Step 3
Once the triangles have been drawn, you will need to use a ruler and scoring tool to score the edges of the triangles. In this photo I am using the back of a craft knife.
-
Step 4
Once the triangles are scored, bend each corner back so that it is ready for gluing.
-
Step 5
Using five of the circles, glue them together so that they form a circle. You will need to make two of these. One will be the top of the ornament and one will be the bottom. Allow the glue to set up for a few minutes before proceeding.
-
Step 6
With the remaining 10 circles, glue them together so that they form a straight line. Allow the glue to set up before proceeding.
-
Step 7
Connect the two ends with glue so that you now have a circle. This will be the center of the ornament.
-
Step 8
Before gluing the top and the bottom to the center of the ornament, you should take a piece of string or ribbon and string it through one end to form the hanger. Take a 5" piece of ribbon/string, fold it in half and tie a knot at the end. Feed the cord through the center where the triangles meet leaving the knot on the underside of the ornament top. Put a little touch of glue to hold the hanger in place.
-
Step 9
Line up the circles and glue the top of the ornament to the center that you made and then to the bottom of the ornament. Let the ornament dry overnight and you are finished.
