One of the easiest and most versatile hairstyles for biracial and African American hair is the two stranded twist. This hairstyle is beautiful, fun, and when done properly can last up to a week. Follow these steps to style your or your child's hair in two stranded twists.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A wide toothed comb
  • A Spray bottle
  • Water and olive or coconut oil
  • Ponytail holders
  • Aloe vera gel
  1. Step 1
    Parted Out Hair Section

Part the hair into a small section using your fingers or a wide toothed comb. Pull the rest of the hair back with a pony tail holder. Never try to comb or part the hair when it is dry because this will cause pain and break the hair. If the hair is dry, use your spray bottle and fill it with 3/4 cup of water and 1/4 cup of olive oil or coconut oil. Shake the bottle to mix it and spray the mixture on the hair just enough to wet it without it dripping. Finger comb the hair to evenly distribute the moisture.

Put aloe vera gel on the hair section for added hold, moisture, and shine. Finger comb it through for even distribution. After the hair is evenly coated, part the section into two smaller sections.

  3. Step 3
Wrapping Hair Sections Around One Another

Take each hair section between the thumb and forefinger and wrap one section over the other. Make sure to keep the hair taunt so that the twist stays neat and tight. Never twist too tightly near the scalp because this can cause pain and hair loss.

  4. Step 4
    Twisting Hair To The Ends

Continue wrapping the hair sections around one another until you reach the ends of the hair. Most biracial and African American hair won't need any type of rubber band or pony tail holder at the end because of the internal curl pattern of the hair shaft. If you find that the twist won't stay, then feel free to put a small elastic pony tail holder at the end of the twist.

  5. Step 5
One Medium Sized Two Stranded Twist

Once your twist is done, part out some more hair and repeat the process until the whole head is done. When done right, these beautiful twists last for up to a week.
