When a computer including a MAC starts the box performs a series of tests. Along with those tests there are a series of beeps that indicate if the tests were passed or not. When they are not passed the computer lets off a series of warning beeps that make troubleshooting the problem easier.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • MAC
  • microphone for recording
  1. Step 1

The default beeps that are used are annoying to say the least. You can change these beeps over to eliminate the annoying and still have the benefit of knowing if the system tests were passed or not.

  2. Step 2

In the apple menu pick monitors and then sound option. You should have an alerts icon that can be clicked. From original install you have a choice of 6 different sounds. Pick one of these 6 or select add to record your own. Select record and save it once you are down. From now on your recording will be listed along with the other 6 default sounds.

  3. Step 3

Select the sound you would like to play during startup if the test is ok. You can also restart your computer at this time to test if the sound has been properly selected.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be creative here. You can record anything from the family pet to the door bell.
  • Make sure you choose something less annoying then the beep you are replacing.
