Tile and grout

Over time your tile grout may become rather dirty and gritty. Staining the grout can really bring out the quality of the grout and make it look new again.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Get some grout stain at your local home improvement store, such as LOWES or Home Depot. Pick a color that compliments your grout. Generally, a darker color will not show off as much dirt, but lighters color can really bring out a shine.

  2. Step 2

Completely clean the tile and grout that you would like to apply the stain to, but give it adequate time to dry. Don't apply stain to wet grout.

  3. Step 3

Make sure your grout isn't brand new. If you just installed your tile and grout, wait at least a month so that the grout is fully cured.

  4. Step 4

Use a grout stain application kit. It should include a small yet stiff bristled brush, nylon pad and sponge. Use the brush to apply the stain to the grout, and the sponge to clean the edges as you go along, to keep the stain off the tile. The nylon pad can be used to scrub the stain from any tile where it is too tough to get off with a sponge.

  5. Step 5

Let the stain dry all the way before putting anything, especially moisture, on the tile and grout. Most stains are also sealants, but you may wish to use another sealant on top of the stain.
