Step1
Use gourds, pumpkins and autumn leaves to decorate mantles and tables.
Step2
Hollow out one large pumpkin, fill it with water and add floating candles.
Step3
Make spiders, bats and tissue ghosts (see Related eHows) and use dental floss to hang them from the ceiling. Use a small fan to make them flutter in the air.
Step4
Hang some Halloween cobwebs around the house, or improvise with yarn or soft cotton.
Step5
Set the mood by keeping the lights dim - use candles, lanterns, small lamps and Halloween lights.
Step6
Add some scary music and sound effects. You can even make your own sound effects and tape them. If you don't have scary tunes, an opera might do the trick.
Step7
Improvise. Make coffins out of old cardboard boxes and gravestones out of Styrofoam packing inserts, or disassemble old store mannequins for body parts.

on 11/22/2005 Do a search for milk jug skeleton. Basically, you take 1 gallon plastic milk (or water) jugs cut them out into bone shapes, and assemble into a life-size skeleton. Since it's plastic it's great for outdoor weather, but my kids love to hang them in the foyer. They are fun to make too.

on 11/22/2005 There are so many party stores out there for Halloween, but if you don't find what you are looking for, or can't afford what you want, it is easy to make Halloween decorations by hand. Crumple up black paper and attach it to pipe cleaners and hang them with string for spiders. There are endless possibilities!

on 11/22/2005 I went to the Dollar store and bought 3 plastic dolls. I then disassembled them and put the parts in my tropical punch. Everyone loved it.

on 11/22/2005 Collect dead flowers, leaves, etc. Arrange them however you want. Use black and orange ribbon. Tie them around the centerpiece. Stick them in a vase. Voilà! You have an autumn centerpiece.

on 11/22/2005 Use green or orange Christmas lights. Stick them on the edge of the table. Buy an inexpensive white table cloth. Cut the tablecloth on the edges. Use a large fan under the table. Turn on the lights and the fan and you have an eerie refreshment table!
