Save Money on Carpet Cleaning

Got a stain on your carpet? Why pay money to spot clean your carpet? Commercial carpet cleaning preparations can leave residue on your carpet, carpet cleaning machines are bulky and hard to use, and professional companies are expensive. Instead of wasting money on carpet cleaning supplies, renting a carpet cleaner or hiring a company, try these simple steps and be amazed at the difference in your carpet (and your wallet!)

Using a blotting motion, clean the stain with the dampened cloth. Begin by wiping in one direction then reverse the direction. This ensures that all sides of the carpet strands get clean. When the area has been cleaned in all directions, continue to Step 3.

  3. Step 3
    Blot dry

With a clean dry towel, blot the stained area to absorb the water. Once again, blot in all directions to remove the water (and the stain).

  4. Step 4

Repeat steps 1-3 until the stain has been removed.

Tips & Warnings
  • This technique will remove the majority of household stains. If you must use a commercial preparation to complete the process, be sure to use this technique to remove the product's residue. Residue will pick up the day to day dirt and create their own stain.

on 9/13/2009 Good advice. I used to own a carpet cleaning company and this will often work depending on the cause of the stain.
