How to Take Out an Old Garbage Disposal and Install a New One

This is one of those simple plumbing tasks that is not too difficult and saves over paying a plumber to come out and do it. If you have hired a plumber lately you know how much they charge for what they do.

I don't mind tackling almost any plumbing project around the house and this one is fairly simple and not too time consuming. There is a fitting for the dishwasher on the new disposal. Hooking this up will be our next household plumbing project.

Instructions

1. 
   The old garbage disposal.

   Open the cabinet door under the sink on the side that the garbage disposal is located.

2. 
   Remove the wires.

   Disconnect the wires. Its best to turn off the power at the fuse box. It is best to avoid getting electrocuted! After all you are dealing with wiring and plumbing in a potentially damp environment.

3. 
   remove drain pipe

   Take the drain pipe off.

4. 
   The old disposal is out!

   Disconnect the mounting lug.This is easily accomplished by turning the body of the disposal.

5. Just reverse the steps to install the new garbage disposal. Make sure it wires up the same.
