Begin by registering for an invite. Google Voice is available by invite only, but it is incredibly easy to apply for an invite.

Visit www.google.com/voice.

Find the link that says "Get an Invite." You will need to provide an email address and your name at this time.

You will receive your invite via email, to the email address you provided.

Follow the prompts of the invite to begin your registration for your Google Voice account.

Google Voice will walk you through the process of registration, including choosing your Google Voice phone number and sync that number with phone numbers you already have in existence, ie, your cell phone.
