I just love getting hand made Christmas ornaments from my kids. Every year when I take them out to decorate my kids always remind me of which one they made. Now over the years I have received many and my collection is still growing. Here is a great recipe for Bakers Clay to make your own homemade ornaments. Your kids will love making and decorating there very own masterpiece. And you can color the clay if you prefer or leave it white and add paint or glitter to decorate.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 4 cups of flour
  • 1 cup of salt
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • mixing bowl
  • spoon
  • plastic bag or air tight container
  • drinking straw
  • holiday cookie cutters
  • cookie sheet
  • rolling pin
  1. Step 1

Preheat your oven to 300 degrees.

  2. Step 2

Mix the salt in the warm water until partially dissolved. Add the flour.

  3. Step 3

Mix with a large spoon until it sticks together, then form the clay into a ball.

  4. Step 4

Next with your hands knead the dough for 5 to 10 minuets.

  5. Step 5

Use the rolling pin to roll dough to about 1/4 inch thick. Use cookie cutters to cut out the shapes of your ornament. Use the drinking straw to make a hole for a hanger at the top.

  6. Step 6

Carefully place ornaments on a cookie sheet and bake for about 1 hour.

  7. Step 7

Let the warm ornaments cool and then paint or decorate.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can double or triple this recipe but measure carefully.
  • To color the clay, add food coloring to the water before mixing.
  • You can glaze with egg white or mayonnaise before baking.
  • Keep ball of dough in a plastic bag or air tight container and use within 24 hours.
  • If the dough is to wet add a little more flour, if it's to dry add a few drops of water and kneed until smooth.
