You will learn how to train your new puppy to use a puppy pad

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Puppy Pad
  1. Step 1

Buy puppy pads and lay them out where your puppy usually uses the most.

  2. Step 2

Watch for signs your puppy is getting ready to use and pick puppy up and put on pad, if puppy tries to walk off of pad and use another place, pick puppy back up and keep putting puppy on pad. Eventually he or she will use on the pad. If not, take puppy to pad atleast every hour to two.

  3. Step 3

If puppy has an accident off of the pad, rub it's nose in it and rub it's nose on pad. If it uses(going number 2) rub nose in it and nose back on pad. Leave the (poo) on it's nose for 5 - 10 minutes before washing it off, which will result in the puppy not wanting to have an accident anymore.

  4. Step 4

Repeat step 2 and 3 if you are still having trouble with accidents.

  5. Step 5

After a couple times of repeating steps 2 and 3, your puppy will start going to the pad on it's own. It may take a few times, but your puppy will eventually be pad trained.

on 9/24/2009 Never ever rub a dog's nose in it's excrement! Never ever even try to scold the dog for urinating/defecating inside unless you catch them in the act. They only have about a 10 second memory and if you don't catch them in the act they may not even know what you are scolding them about and you will just teach them to be afraid of you. The whole rub their nose in it is antiquated and mean. Simply scolding and bringing them to the area where you want them to go is effective in getting the point across and you won't teach the dog to associate unpleasantness with being around you. How about doing some research before passing on misinformation?
