After a long summer or vacation that includes a lot of pool time can, you might have more than just a tan. Chlorine build up on hair can cause hair to be dry, brittle, frizzy and difficult to manage. Chlorine can also build up from showering in unfiltered water on a regular basis. There are several ways to effectively and quickly strip the chlorine out of the hair to make it healthy and manageable once again.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Mix two parts water with one part baking soda and rinse hair with the mixture before shampooing. Let the solution soak for a few minutes and comb through if possible to make sure the hair is evenly coated.

  2. Step 2

    Mix 2 parts apple cider vinegar with one part water and apply to hair. Let soak for several minutes and rinse completely.

  3. Step 3

    Repeat treatments on a regular basis, weekly or monthly.

  4. Step 4

    Condition the hair well after removing the chlorine.

Tips & Warnings
  • To prevent chlorine build up, rinse hair well after swimming in a pool
  • Install chlorine filters on shower heads
  • Coat hair with conditioner before swimming in a chlorinated pool
  • There are products made especially for chlorine removal such as shampoos and treatments.
