One of the greatest mysteries in life is a baby with colic. Not only is it sad to see your baby in pain its extremely frustrating not being able to help them.
Though there are no cures for colic there are a few things we can do to help soothe our little ducklings in there time of need.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Mylicon infant drops
  • Hair dryer or washing machine
  • Lots and lots of patience
  1. Step 1

First thing you want to do when attempting to calm a baby with colic is to make sure he or she isn't hungry, hot, cold or in need of a diaper change. Even simple things like these can make for a very unhappy little camper.

  2. Step 2

Next, you want to make sure your baby doesn't need to burp. Rapid breathing and leg stiffening can be one sign that air is in there somewhere. Gas can be extremely uncomfortable for an infant, using Mylicon infant drops usually helps to release the gas.

  3. Step 3

The third thing you want to do is make sure your baby isn't being over stimulated. bring your little one to a dark, quiet room. Give him or her a pacifier to soothe themselves with. White noise also helps, such as a hair dryer or washing machine. Sometimes the humming of appliances can make our little ones feel like they are back in the comforts of their previous home.

  4. Step 4

If all of your efforts prove unsuccessful you just need to be patient and wait it out. Don't get frustrated, this is one thing that is unavoidable for most infants.

Tips & Warnings
  • Try walking, bouncing and rocking your baby
  • Try applying slight pressure to the stomach
  • The most important thing to remember is to stay calm, no one will benefit if you're both fussy.
  • Before giving your child Mylicon drops talk to your pediatrician, you should always consult your doctor before changing your baby's diet or routine.
  • If you cannot calm your baby after 4 hours call your doctor or go to the emergency room as there might be a more serious issue at hand.

on 10/1/2009 I thought, and was told that my baby had colic, however, I later found out that my baby had severe food alergies. He was alergic to corn, yeast, wheat, and milk. If you see red, pimple like spots around their mouth, or a rash that seems like diaper rash that will not go away, you need to have your little one tested. When we changed his diet, completely, all of the symptoms went away. You covered colic well. I hope it helps many. rec. and 5*

on 10/1/2009 Good article. It can be a tough time for you and baby. Sometimes wrapping your baby tightly with arms crossed and knees to tummy helps. Staying calm yourself is important too becuase babies pick up on vibes.
