Things You'll Need:
- Fresh pineapple with top
- planting container
- seed starting mix with sand
-
Step 1
Select a pineapple with top. Choose a pineapple that is at least 1/2 golden but not quite all the way to the top. The top should be green and healthy looking. TWIST the top off of the pineapple.
-
Step 2
Peel the smaller leaves off of the bottom of the pineapple top. You will be peeling off about 1/2 of the leaves This will expose the white core with little brown root nodules.
-
Step 3
Allow the top to dry on the counter for 2-3 days before planting. Mix the seed starting mix with a little sand. and place in the container (at least 4" x 4") Slightly moisten the seed starting mix and place the top in the mix up to the leaves. Place in 1/2 sun. Allow to dry out slightly between watering. Top should root in 2-3 weeks.

on 9/15/2009 I love plants and didn't think that a pineapple top would make a great houseplant. Now that I know the technique to make it root, I will give it a try.

on 9/4/2009 Twist the top off from the pineapple - do not cut it. Also need to let it dry for a couple of days before planting or it will rot.
