Things You'll Need:
- Table Cloth
- Dinner Plates
- Knives
- Forks
- Spoons
- Napkins
- Drinking Glasses/Cups
- Salt/Pepper/Butter Dish
- Salad Dressing
-
Step 1
Start with a table cloth that you like. You probably have a few. If you don't, then you can buy one at a dollar store, WalMart, Target, Kmart, or a number of other stores. They are inexpensive, and you can find endless styles and colors that are pretty and will really add a little something extra to the kitchen table. Make sure that you buy the right size tablecloth. Spread it over the table and you are ready to set it.
-
Step 2
Start with the dinner plates. They are the biggest size plates in a set. They usually measure 8-10" from one edge to another. Place each dinner plate in the center of where you want your setting to be.
-
Step 3
Place a fork on the left of the plate. Place a knife on the right side, with the blade facing away from the plate, and a spoon to the right of the knife.
-
Step 4
Add the napkins. Napkins are also available in a variety of colors and patterns, so you can use them to complement your table cloth. Fold each napkin in half, either lengthwise or crosswise to make a triangle. Place it under the fork.
-
Step 5
The drinking glass or cup, always goes to the right above the knife and spoon. Even if it is a coffee cup and saucer. Place the drink ware, no matter what it is above the knife and spoon.
-
Step 6
Place the condiments in the center of the table, so that they can be passed around. The salt and pepper, butter dish and salad dressing all go in the center. You can also add a decorative center piece that complement the napkins and table cloth.
-
Step 7
If you are serving rolls or bread, and you want to use bread plates, then place them to the left of the dinner plate above the fork. Dessert plates can be used as bread plates. If you have bread plates, then they are usually a little smaller than dessert plates.
