to diagnose Quikclean II popup failures

An in-ground swimming pool using a Quikclean automatic cleaner uses the water pressure from the pool pump to operate popup cleaning heads. The cleaning heads operate in zones. Your pool will use multiple cleaning zones that are designed to sweep debris to the pool sump where it will be drawn into the pool filter.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

If you have a zone that appears stuck, check the Quikclean valve assembly is working correctly.

  2. Step 2

If the cleaning zones cycle through their operation correctly but a single popup fails to work correctly, check the pool filter pressure gauge. As the zone with the faulty popup cleaning head is actuated, the pool filter pressure gauge will rise if there is a blockage in the line to the popup head.

  3. Step 3
Clean sand or other debris from popup using running water

If the pool filter pressure gauge does not rise, remove and inspect the popup cleaning head. The popup is spring-loaded and when the water is directed to it, the head is raised. When the water is directed to another cleaning zone, the popup lowers and it ratchets around to its next starting position. Over several operating cycles, the cleaning head will have swept a 360 arc. Manually operate the popup head under a running faucet to remove any sand or debris that may be causing the popup to stick in one position.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't expect a cleaning zone to work correctly when you remove a cleaning head. With one cleaning head removed from a zone, the back-pressure required to operate the remaining heads will be reduced.
