Your dog will be fine.
Your dog will be fine.

You love your dog, and you hate to see him in pain. When a male dog reaches six months old, it's time to consider having him neutered. With some tender care, your dog will survive the ordeal and be active again,in no time.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Veterinarian's instructions
  • Short leash
  • Plenty of water
  • Small amounts of food
  1. Step 1

Follow your veterinarian's instructions. When you have your dog neutered, you will be given a list of instructions. Follow this list, even if your pup seems to be without pain and ready to romp.

  2. Step 2

Keep puppy inside except to use the bathroom. If your dog loves to roam outside, wait a week before allowing him back out. Take him out on a short leash for bathroom breaks, a short walk, and then bring him back inside. A short leash will help you avoid him tangling up in a retractable leash.

  3. Step 3

Introduce food slowly. On the first day back home, give your dog water in small amounts. If he handles the water, then introduce a small amount of food. Most likely, he won't want to eat much anyways.

  4. Step 4

Check the area daily. Your dog will have some slight swelling and redness. If the swelling and redness do not disappear in a few days, call your vet.

  5. Step 5

Keep him quiet. This is a tough instruction, but it is necessary. If you have another dog, keep them apart because active play may open the incision. Give him his toys and his bed. The first day he will want to sleep more than usual.

Tips & Warnings
  • Hold your dog and pet him. He isn't quite sure what happened, so he needs comfort from his master.
  • Avoid running and rough play for one week.
