How to Use Blogger Templates

Blogger aka blogspot.com is a great website where you can set up as many free blogs as your heart desires. The only complaint many people have with blogger is the lack of variety in templates and backgrounds to choose from when setting up and designing their blog. Here is how you can easily customize your blogger page, making it more unique and interesting.

Step 1

Go to Blogger.com and start a new blog if you don't have one already. It is very easy to get started and self explanatory once you are on the website.
Step 2

Now visit the website Cutest Blog on the Block (link in resources). Click on the link on the left hand side that says "Free Backgrounds". Then you can choose from either blogger backgrounds or blogspot templates.
Step 3

Browse through the many free blogger backgrounds. There are plenty of designs to choose from.
Step 4

When you find a design you like, click on it. Then scroll down till you see a box full of code. Highlight and copy the entire section of code.
Step 5

Make sure you are logged into your blogger account. On your dashboard, under the blog you want to change, click "layout". Click on the page element that says "add gadget".
Step 6

Once the add gadget box pops up, click on the option to add "HTML/JavaScript" You add by clicking on the + sign to the right of it.
Step 7

Paste the entire background code into the empty box and click SAVE. You can now click preview to see how it looks.
Step 8

When you preview, your original blogger template that you have might not go well with the new background template. See the example in the picture. The words are not readable as they do not line up. Either I can leave the layout as is and just change the color of the font, but I'll change the layout so it's easier to read and look at.
Step 9

Under the layout section, click on "Pick New Template". Select a style of template that you think will work better with your new background. Click "SAVE" and then click "View Blog". Your blog should open up in a new window and you can decide if it works or you can keep trying all the different built in templates until you find the one you like the best.
Step 10

As a final step, you may want to adjust the font colors. Under the layout tab, click Fonts and Colors. Adjust your fonts and colors so they are easy to read and match your background. Click the orange button that says SAVE CHANGES. You can now view your beautiful, unique blog.
