Things You'll Need:
- Fax Machine
- Alcohol Swipe or:
- Bottle of rubbing alcohol & a cotton ball
-
Step 1
If your recipients say the faxes you sent them look horrible because you have a bunch of lines running down the page, nothing is wrong with the fax machine itself, the imaging glass is just dirty and you can clean it in a few simple steps.
-
Step 2
Opened Fax to reveal rollers & imaging glassFirst, open the top of the machine to reveal the rollers & imaging glass. (See Photo) Different machines will open different ways, usually from the top or the side. A gentle tug will do it. If you cannot reach the imaging glass, look for a retaining clip that prevents the panel from being raised too high. Remove the clip to gain better access.
-
Step 3
Cleaning the Imaging GlassThe imaging glass runs the width of the machine but is only about 3/4 of an inch deep. Wipe the glass with the alcohol swipe or cotton ball wetted with alcohol. Look for any specs of dried ink or white out that has transferred from a faxed document to the glass.
-
Step 4
Once the Imaging Glass is clean and smooth, close the panel being sure to reset any clips that were disabled to gain access.
-
Step 5
Send a test fax to another fax machine in your office or someone you can call to confirm the lines are completely gone. If not, repeat the process being sure not to scratch the glass.
