Peanut Butter Bird Feeder

Bird Watching is a popular hobby in the United States—one which can be enjoyed year round, in nearly all kinds of weather, and from the comfort of your own home. Many bird watchers put up several bird feeders in their attempt to attract birds, and they offer the birds a variety of different foods. Peanut butter is a favorite food of many birds.

This article will show you how to make a simple and effective peanut butter feeder that is inexpensive to make—using items you may already have on hand.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Small Log or Thick Branch
  • Saw (to cut the log)
  • Drill with ½ inch drill bit
  • Large S Hook or Similar
  • Eye Hook
  • Peanut Butter
  1. Step 1

Take a walk through the woods and find a small downed log or a big branch that’s fallen from a tree. You want something that is about 14 inches long and about 3 inches in diameter. Use a saw to cut the log or branch to the desired length.

  2. Step 2
Drill holes for your peanut butter feeder.

Using a butter knife, fill the holes with the peanut butter. Attach the S hook to the eye hook and hang the feeder outside for the birds.

SET ASIDE THAT JAR OF PEANUT BUTTER FOR THE BIRDS ONLY. DO NOT ALLOW PEOPLE TO EAT PEANUT BUTTER FROM THAT SAME PEANUT BUTTER JAR.

Tips & Warnings
  • The holes seem a little small at first, but over time and use the holes will get larger.
  • Brace the log so it doesn’t roll while you are drilling the holes.
  • Electric drills have a forward AND a reverse. Make sure your drill is in the forward position to drill the holes.
  • Label the jar of the bird’s peanut butter “FOR BIRDS ONLY.” Because of the possibility of contamination, do not allow humans to eat the bird’s peanut butter.
