Like most wireless devices, the Palm Pilot portable digital assistant, or PDA, needs to be charged regularly to keep functioning. The first time you charge your Palm Pilot, it will take about four hours. A good way to do it is to let it sit overnight on the day you purchase it. That way you don't have to keep checking back and risk unplugging it before the battery is at full power.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Palm Pilot, or other Palm brand PDA device
  • AC charger cable
  1. Step 1

Open your Palm Pilot's box and take a look at the parts it contains. There will be, of course, the Palm Pilot unit. You will also see a charger cable, which has one end that looks like a standard wall plug and a smaller end that plugs into the Palm Pilot. Your box may also contain other accessories, such as a belt clip, depending on the package you purchased.

  2. Step 2

Find the notch in the base of your Palm Pilot that is the same size as the small end of your charger cable. Plug the cable in. It will fit easily. If this is your first time charging, leave the device powered off.

  3. Step 3

Plug the opposite end of the cable into any standard wall outlet. The face of your Palm Pilot should light up to let you know it is ready to charge. If it doesn't, check that the cable is plugged in all the way on both ends. If it still doesn't work, you most likely have either a bad cable or a bad outlet.

  4. Step 4

Check back in a couple hours and see if the LED light has changed from red to green. When it's green, it has charged fully. It's best not to unplug it until this time.

Tips & Warnings
  • This is not the only way to charge your Palm Pilot. You can also use a USB cable by plugging one end into the Palm and the other end into a USB port on your computer or set the base of your Palm Pilot in a sync cradle. You will have to purchase these items separately. Your Palm should hold charge for about four hours of talk time. For best results, charge it for at least half an hour every day. You won't lose your data if your Palm's battery dies. You just won't be able to access it until you charge the device, or you can use it while it's plugged in.
  • Your Palm will alert you when its battery is low. A warning message will appear on the screen.
