Are you dealing with defaulted student loans? This debt will follow you forever if it is not taken care of. There are some steps you should take if you want to take care of these loans.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

The first step to deal with a defaulted student loan is to find out exactly who you owe and what amount. The next thing you will need to find is contact information for the lender. You will need to get in contact and explain your circumstances. You should have some money or the ability to offer the lender a monthly payment.

  2. Step 2

Try to be completely honest. Explain the amount you can pay and ask if you can arrange a payment plan so both sides can benefit. Get all deals in writing. Make sure you will be able to follow through with any agreement you sign.

  3. Step 3

Make payments and bring your current defaulted student loans current. Remember this is a second chance so do everything in your power to stay current in repayment. If there is any problem meeting a payment contact the lender immediately to discuss options open to you.
