Things You'll Need:
- ceiling fan/light kit
- remote control unit supplied by the fan dealer
- screw driver
- power tester
- Electric wire connectors
- wire strippers
- ladder
-
Step 1
When purchasing your ceiling fan and light kit also buy a remote control kit it costs just a few dollars and makes the installation very easy.. The remote will allow you to turn on/off the light and fan separately from anywhere in the room.
It is a few dollars well spent. -
Step 2
Decide where the fan/light is going. Make sure the ceiling height is adequate to allow the fan and light to be installed and still have head room. ( They make ceiling hugger fans for lower ceilings).
Make sure the existing light turns on and off from the wall switch. Then turn off the power to that room. Once the power is off double check that the light doesn't come on using the switch. -
Step 3
Remove the existing light fixture and disconnect the wires that are connected with wire connectors. Turn these connectors counter clockwise while holding the wires and they should come right off. If several wires are connected together with the wire going to the ceiling light fixture leave them connected and just remove the wire going to the light. Now you should have at least two wires and sometimes a bare wire.
You could have three wires and one should be green, or bare.
Read the fan installation directions carefully and mount the included hardware as directed in the instructions. Assemble the fan as per the directions and install the remote control module. When the module is properly connected to the fan wires as per the manufactures directions there should be three wires left to connect to the wires in the ceiling.
make sure the green or bare wire is attached to the green or bare wire in the ceiling. The white wire should attach to the white wire in the ceiling and the black wire to the black wire in the ceiling. Use the wire connectors that you removed earlier or use new ones if needed. Attach the fan to the ceiling bracket. Once the fan is attached and the wires are connected turn the power back on and then flip on the wall switch. Install the batteries in the remote and push the light on button. Now try the fan on button. Once everything is working well, Install the fan blades and your good to go.
