How to Get My Three Free Credit Reports
According to the Fair Credit Reporting Act, a consumer is entitled to a free copy of his credit report from each of the three major credit-reporting agencies once a year. This means you don't need to pay for services just to see what is in your credit report.

Go to AnnualCreditReport.com and verify your identity by answering questions about your history.

Look down the page to the section headlined "Start Here to View and Print Your Credit Report Now." Use the dropdown box under the headline to select the state you live in and click on "Request Report."

Fill in all of the fields with the required information. If you are concerned about security, look at the address bar of your browser and check to be sure that the URL starts with "https". The "s" signifies that the connection is secure and information encrypted to prevent anyone from viewing your information.

Type the jumbled characters that appear in the box on the bottom left. This is a randomly generated security code to ensure that you are a real person requesting the information. Advance to the next page.

Select one of the three major credit reporting agencies to deliver your report. This will take you to the agency's website, where your request will be processed. You will be able to return to this page later via a link at the bottom of your screen.

Answer any questions the company asks you. The multiple-choice questions will be about your financial history that only you could answer. When you are finished, you should be able to view your credit report generated by that agency.

Return to AnnualCreditReport.com by clicking on the "Go Back" button on the bottom of the page. You can go through the process again or return later to get your report from another agency .
