How to Design a Master Bedroom With Purple & Green

Many say that their home is the best escape after a long day. For some, however, ultimate comfort can only be found in the bedroom. One of the ways to design a relaxing yet attractive master bedroom is through the use of copious amounts of dark colors and just a hint of bright ones. Create a soothing, cocoon-like effect through the use of a color palette dominated by shades of purple and green.

Things You'll Need

• Purple paint
• Dark wood furniture
• Lime-colored bedspread and purple cushions
• Hunter-green-colored chair
• Purple carpeting
• Dim lamps
• Prints and gold frames
• Patterned curtains

Instructions

1. Pain the walls a deep plum purple.

2. Choose dark-wood furniture for pieces such as the bed frame, desk and closet.

3. Cover the bed with a light lime-colored bedspread made of a shiny fabric such as satin. Place several cushions in a shade of purple similar to that of the walls onto the bed. Ideally, the cushions should be upholstered in material different from that of the bedspread. Examples include velvet or cotton.

4. Place a hunter-green chair next to the window or the desk. Choose a chair upholstered in rich fabric such as velvet.

5. Save the deepest shade of purple for the carpeting, which should cover the entire bedroom floor.

6. Use dim lamps with shades made of dark purple or brown fabric.

7. Frame prints that feature a large amount of green in gold frames, which works well in combination with purple. Scatter the prints throughout the walls in the bedroom.

8. Add a splash of color by hanging patterned curtains in the windows. Choose a pattern that uses a lot of purple and various shades of green in combination with colors such as dark red and khaki.
