Proper Mutual Fund Research

If you want to start investing in mutual funds then you better know how to do proper mutual fund research. Research is the key for any type of investment and this holds especially true for mutual funds.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find out the ticker symbol of the mutual fund. If you want to do any type of mutual fund research then you will definitely need the ticker symbol. A mutual fund's ticker symbol is 5 letters long.

  2. Step 2

Go to Morningstar, Yahoo Finance, or MSN money to start conducting your mutual fund research. Type in the ticker symbol of the mutual fund and click "get quote".

  3. Step 3

All mutual funds will have a star rating usually provided by Morningstar. While these are not the only factor to use in determining a good investment, they will help guide you in the right direction.

  4. Step 4

Research the mutual fund manager and his/her success. You want to have a mutual fund manager that has been at the helm for awhile and has a proven track record. A good manager is worth his/her weight in gold.
