Care for a Wound to Prevent Scars

Any cut or wound, no matter how big or small, is a potential scar. It is very important to use the right treatment for scar prevention. Every time you have a cut there is a scar, you may not be able to see it but it's there. The skin doesn't heal perfectly. You can use a scar treatment, but prevention is best. To minimize the appearance of scars you have to take care of your wound properly.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean your wound. Use an antibacterial soap to carefully and gently wash the affected area. Hydrogen Peroxide is also a good cleanser.

    • 2

Keep your wound moist. Apply an antibiotic ointment and a bandage. Be sure to change at least twice per day unless otherwise directed by a doctor.

    • 3

Rub Vitamin E Oil into the cut. Break open a Vitamin E Oil capsule and rub the oil in 3 to 4 times per day.

    • 4

Use sun block on scars. Scar tissue doesn't have the pigment to tan and prevent further damage to your skin. If you don't use sun block your scar will burn. Sunburn will worsen the scar, cause more damage to your skin and make the scar more noticeable.

    • 5

Eat properly and get plenty of rest so your body will be at its best to heal cuts. Proper nutrition is important to the body healing itself.

Tips & Warnings

  • If your scar is severe seek the advice of a plastic surgeon for scar treatment.
