Hosting a decorate Easter cookies contest is a great way to celebrate the holiday in a new way! Often during Easter, family and friends are familiar with Easter egg decorating contests, so this year why not switch things up a bit and do things a little differently?

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Oval shaped sugar cookies
  • Cookie trays
  • Icing, candy confetti, and other cookie decorations
  • Prizes for the winners
  1. Step 1

Decide on a panel of judges who will be in charge of choosing the winners. The panel may or may not be involved in the decorating the Easter cookies themselves.

  2. Step 2

Create multiple categories and prizes so that there is more than just one winner. Consider winners based on creativity, humor, and even most egg-like. Choose different prizes for each category to make things exciting.

  3. Step 3

Give the contestants ample time to decorate Easter cookies, maybe about an hour. Make sure that there are plenty of beverages, snacks, and even music for the duration of the contest to make everyone feel comfortable and to add to the festivities.

  4. Step 4

Use a simple sugar cookie recipe to make oval shaped cookies prior to the contest. Have your "blank" cookies ready. Make sure that there is enough cookies to provide each contestant with a couple of cookies each to decorate. Have the undecorated sugar cookies cooled and on a tray ready to be decorated.

  5. Step 5

Have empty trays nearby so that the contestants can place their decorated cookies.

  6. Step 6

Have a supply of colored icing spread out around the contest area ready to decorate Easter cookies. Be sure to include icing colors that reflect Easter, such as different pastels, light spring colors, and even white - just in case someone wants to make their cookie more egg-like prior to decorating.

If you are working with small children, then using sandwich bags for piping the icing; simply snip one corner and add a small amount of icing that kids can squeeze out for decorating.

Colorful candy confetti, sparkly decorating gels, and other fun cookie decorating embellishments can be cool ingredients to decorate Easter cookies.

  7. Step 7

When the time is up, make sure that all the cookies are ready to be judges. Have the panel prepared to give compliments to all of the decorated cookies before choosing the winners. Give the winners their prizes and celebrate by having a cookie eating party!
