How to Forward Email Without Revealing Addresses

Interesting email should certainly be forwarded to your friends. However the forwarding should be done without including a list of email addresses. The email will be shorter and, more important, you will not expose valid addresses. This protects the people you send the email to from having their email addresses harvested later when the message is forwarded to others. Although some people harvest emails to send promotional materials, frequently considered spam, others use them for phishing schemes and other hacking techniques.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your email client. If you use Web mail, sign in using your preferred browser.

    • 2

Open the message you plan to forward. Click the "Forward" button in your email application. Enter any text you want to add to the message.

    • 3

Enter the addresses to which you want to forward the email in the "BCC" field. Addresses in the BCC field aren't visible to any of the recipients. Click "Send."

Tips & Warnings

  • Send this method to all originators of the forwarded email you receive.
