You know the sayings “if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again” and “practice makes perfect?” Well, BOTH of those sayings DEFINITELY apply to the SAT. The SAT is one of the most IMPORTANT tests you will take in your life, so you NEED to do well...

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • two or more number 2 pencils, an appropriate calculator, and a snack
  1. Step 1

    1. PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!!! Practice makes perfect!

  2. Step 2

    2. Take advantage of the opportunities offered to you....

Like the one that the Sylvan Learning Center in Folsom is offering to you...

This AMAZING opportunity is taking place on September 5th at the Sylvan Learning Center in Folsom. It is ABSOLUTELY FREE, no catch, and to top it off, it is a full-length test--PURELY PRACTICE!! Your test is scored and evaluated in the same way as the REAL SAT. Studies show that the more you practice test taking, the higher your scores are!!!
Families today are, on average, spending more than $1,000 on college preparatory books, materials and academic services for each student applying to college. In these tough economic times, Sylvan Learning Center-Folsom and Connect With Kids are helping to soften the financial blow to parents through the launch of their ongoing national effort to partner with schools to provide free SAT practice tests.
"As SAT and ACT scores continue to play an important role in an applicant's ultimate college acceptance, students are still looking for a competitive edge by achieving the highest score possible" says Russell Greiff, vice president of Sylvan Learning College Prep. "Sylvan is offering this free, improvement service to help students and families better prepare for test day." Sylvan Learning has been an educational leader in helping students increase their SAT/ACT scores for more than a decade. In fact, a majority of students in the Sylvan College Prep program increased their scores an average of 160 points or more for the SAT and up to 5 points for the ACT.
Sylvan aims to help students, schools and families understand how to better prepare amid dramatically increased competition in college applications. There is NO requirement for a student to be a Sylvan client in order to receive their FREE personalized analysis.
This free practice SAT will be offered at the Folsom Sylvan Learning Center at 283 Iron Point Road, Folsom, CA, 95630 on September 5th from 9:30 to 1:30. Students will take a free practice SAT, have their tests scored and have those scores evaluated with a Sylvan educator, ALL FREE OF CHARGE.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be proud of yourself! You have been asked to take the SAT/ACT which is a very big honor, and you should be proud of yourself. Congratulations!
  • Don't freak out! Don't think that just because you have to take the SAT/ACT, you have to study like crazy to make a good grade! You are taking a test meant for people 4-6 years older than you. They have learned more, and you shouldn't try to compare yourself to them. This is just an opportunity to see how you do on an upper-level test.
  • Don't immediately go out and buy a SAT/ACT preparation course! Some of these kits are not worth it. When you take the test again, your junior high scores will be deleted. If you really want to study, here are some links that might help you.
  • Don't expect to make a 36 / 2400 when you receive your score report. Here's the average of 7th graders on these two tests. As can be seen, the averages are not too high![8] ACT: Mathematics: 17 English: 17 Reading: 17 Science: 18 Composite: 17 SAT: Critical Reading: 420 Mathematics: 440 Writing: 411

  • Stay calm at the test! This is just a little fun test for you, but these other juniors and seniors only have one or (in the case of juniors) two shots at it! You're in 7th grade! You have 6 shots[7] at it! Don't worry!
  • Do the easy questions first. Don't spend ten minutes on a question, because there will probably be some that you don't know.
  • If you guess on the SAT and get it wrong, you lose points. So try not to guess!
  • If you're taking the ACT, guess on every one you don't know! Don't leave one blank!
  • Make sure to get a full nights sleep the night before the test
  • PLAN AHEAD!! DO NOT CRAM THE NIGHT BEFORE!!
  • Bring everything you need: 2 or more number two pencils, an appropriate calculator, a snack, a photo id, and your social security number
