How to Build a Speaker for Less Than 99 Cents
This is a great science experiment for your kids. It teaches the basics of acoustics. Also a nice novelty to have in your room
Things You'll Need
- A paper plate
- A sheet of aluminum foil
- A shinny new penny
- Any music player (mp3, disc man, etc)
- An old set of headphones
Instructions
-
-
1
Using a pair of scissors cut the wire of your old headphones and expose one of the bare wires.
-
2
Use the aluminum foil paper to cover the paper plate, leaving air trapped between the aluminum foil and the plate. The best way to do it is to use an oversize aluminum sheet and fold the edges around the plate.

3
Tape the shinny new penny to the center of the aluminum sheet. Place the bare wire (from your old headphones) on top of the penny and fix them to the aluminum sheet using scotch tape.
-
4
Connect your old headphone set to the music player. Place the speaker on a flat, solid surface (a table will do), with the penny facing up.
Start listening music on your new speaker!!!

Tips & Warnings
Be sure to start your speaker at low volume and turn it up later on
You must use a shinny penny. Old or rusty pennies will not work.
Use clear scotch tape, just use what is necessary.
