Carve Your Turkey
Carve Your Turkey

Turkey carving can be a little intimidating for anyone who hasn’t carved one before. You see some people who expertly carve a turkey and it is a thing of beauty, while yours looks like the kids got to it.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Place your turkey, breast side up, on a platter and let it cool for about 10 minutes before carving. Make sure your carving knife is very sharp.

  2. Step 2

Pull the drumstick away from and in a downward motion from the turkey to remove it from the rest of the body. If the drumstick doesn’t come off easily, use the tip of the knife to pop it out. Repeat with the other drumstick. Place drumsticks on the platter.

  3. Step 3

Pull downward on each wing with a slight twisting motion to remove wings. If the wing doesn’t come off easily use your knife to ease the wing off.

  4. Step 4

Follow the sides of the body and slice parallel to it in a downward motion for the dark meat.

  5. Step 5

Use a fork poked into the breast to hold the turkey in place. Use your knife to make cuts at a 45° angle, running parallel to the body. Start near the wing going towards the ribs. Be sure to cut thin even slices.

on 8/15/2009 I think what keeps me from doing this right would have to be not always having a sharp knife. Well written article.
