Step 1
First, consider your options for medical student loans. Those options include Sallie Mae, Citibank, Access Group, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and Chase. These are some of the big banks that offer medical student loans. Some of them offer full expenses, while others offer a bit less. These banks also set their interest rates. Finally, there are smaller programs, such as Medloans and the AAMC.

Second, decide how much medical student loan you want to ask for. Medical school can range in costs from public and private schools. The different banks have different track records and different reputations with students and financial aid offices. Sometimes your financial aid advisor will be able to lead you to the right choice; some schools give you a list comparing the benefits of each medical school loan institution. Another option is to talk to upperclassmen and ask which loans they have.

Third, apply for a unsubsidized Stafford Loans, which are Federal student loans. These loans are also available to medical students. In addition, try to offset the cost of your school loans by applying for scholarships and grants; money that does not need to be paid back.
