The United Kennel Club is second in size and longevity only to the American Kennel Club and are just as well respected. Registering a litter with UKC is easy.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • UKC registered parent dogs
  • Printer (optional)
  • Fax Machine(optional)
  • Scanner (optional)
  1. Step 1

As you are reading this article, it is assumed that you have a computer. The easiest way for you to obtain the papers needed to register your UKC litter of puppies is to go to www.ukcdogs.com > Click on 'Breeders Corner' > 'Forms and Fees' and then the 'Litter Registration Application' in the box of 'Most Requested Forms'. This will open up a PDF document.

*If you can not do any of these things, call UKC at (269)343-9020 and ask them for the litter application.

Print the PDF document. This is your UKC litter registration application. Make as many copies as you have litters to register. You may wish to go ahead and print an extra copy just in case you make a mistake.

Fill out the application completely. Have your calendar handy as you will need the dates the litter was bred & the date the litter was born. You will also need your registration papers for the parents. If you used an outside stud for this litter, call the stud owner and get the info you need. You will need their full registered name (no titles necessary for the form) and their UKC registration number. The stud owner will need to sign this form. There is also a section to fill out if you used stored semen vs a live breeding.

You can choose to designate a different individual as the owner of the litter or you can leave that blank in step 4 of the litter application. The default will be that the owner of the dam (mother) of the litter of puppies will be the official owner of the litter until they are sold.

The second page of the UKC litter application is for you to permanently register any puppies you plan to keep for yourself. You can opt to leave this blank and send in the puppy application later. I find that it's easier to do now, cheaper and it lessens my risk of procrastinating and not having all my papers in order later. Fees go up as the puppy gets older.

You can send your completed litter application to the United Kennel Club using the address found on the first page of the litter application. If you are in a hurry, you can fax you application to: (269) 343-7037 or you can even scan your litter application forms and email them to: registration@ukcdogs.com. It is important to note that if you use the fax or email options, you will automatically be charged the $10 RUSH processing fee.

Inform your puppy buyers that the puppy papers provided to them are applications. They must be filled out by the new owner and sent to UKC with the appropriate registration fees to be officially registered. They can use any prefix (kennel name) that they wish on their puppy application. If you would like for them to use your kennel name, you can ask this of them but you are not allowed to demand it.

Tips & Warnings
  • Send in your litter application as soon after the puppies are born as possible.
  • Never sell a puppy until you have the puppy papers in your hand to provide to the new owner.
