During a sporting event if a bloody nose happens due to injury or heat a quick and easy way to stop the bleeding is by gently inserting a light or regular absorbency tampon into the nostril. The tampon is a sterile and super absorbent piece of cotton. This will help stop the flow and keep the blood contained. Do not worry the tampon can only be inserted so far and will not become stuck. When the bleeding has stopped gently pull out the tampon using the string. The tampon should slide out easily. Discard of the use cotton as you would any other bloody material. If the bleeding persists seek medical attention. Keeping a few tampons in your first aid kit is a easy, cheep, and sterile addition that will come in handy.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Light or Regular Absorbency Tampon
  1. Step 1

Remove sterile tampon from outer packaging.

  2. Step 2

    Remove cotton from applicator.

  3. Step 3

Carefully insert cotton into bleeding nostril. Do not worry the cotton can only go so far, it will not become stuck.

  4. Step 4

To remove used cotton pull gently downward. Tampon should slide out easily. Discard as you would any other bloody material.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use the light or regular absorbency tampon. Light absorbency fit the best in smaller nostrils and are easier to insert farther. Tampons may also be trimmed with scissors to fit into nostril. Be carefully to remove all trimmed cotton because it can become lodged in the nose.
  • Be careful inserting the tampon into nostril. If bleeding persists seek medical attention! Be sure to discard of all bloody materials correctly.
