How to Sound Proof a Wall

Whether it's a game room, the kids room, or maybe your home theatre, it is sometimes nice to sound proof a wall. Follow these steps to sound proof your own wall today.

Instructions

1. There are a few different methods for making a sound proof wall. The first method is by using sheetrock. Use silicone caulking to apply a single piece of sheetrock up against the studs, then lay a bead of caulking on the sheet before applying another sheet on top of it. This will create a sandwich, helping to sound proof the wall.

2. Another method is to use sheets of styrofoam. Get a few 1" thick 4'x8' sheets of blue insulation styrofoam. Use caulk to attach them to your wall, covering the entire wall floor to sealing. Then, use the same paint or wallpaper already in the room to conceal the work.

3. A third option is to use fiberglass insulation batts. If you have access to the stud cavities, insert the rolls of fiberglass into the walls to aid in the sound proofing process.

4. The last method, though most expensive, is to use commercial sound proof materials. These can be purchased as rigid panels or rolls, and are applied to a wall to sound proof the room. They work very well, but are the priciest option for creating a sound proof wall.
