Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Calendar
  • Lined Paper
  • Pen
  • Calendar of local events
  1. Step 1

Although this article is written for the gift recipent being a child, this idea can and does work for adults too. For examples, please see my additional tips section.

  2. Step 2

Find a calendar for the upcoming year from a local dollar store that suits the gift recipients likes.

  3. Step 3

Search the internet for a local calendar of events for your area. Browse the calendar of events for free or low cost events you could attend throughout the year together such as art fairs, zoos, carnivals, fireworks, parades and sporting events. Write the date and name of any activity that may interest you on a piece of lined paper.

  4. Step 4

Take out the recipient's calendar, mark any special dates such as birthdays and anniversaries.

  5. Step 5

Page through your listing of activities that you have on created on your lined paper. Go through each month of the calendar taking proper care to write the name of the activity that is planned on the according date.

  6. Step 6

When you are finished marking all the calendar activities, go back through the calendar, month by month. Is there a month that looks bare? You can include special dates, like pick your favorite ice cream shop night, 1 game of bowling this afternoon, movie rental and popcorn night, board game night, pizza making night, beach day and family bike ride.

  7. Step 7

Let your creativity run free with the calendar. For children you do not need to make each month something that costs alot of money. Feeding the ducks at a local wildlife sanctuary for $1.25 was one of our favorite outings.

Don't worry about looking at your lined paper or marking your calendars for the upcoming special dates, your children will be marking the days as a count down and will let YOU know when something is coming up.

Tips & Warnings
  • This calendar work as a wonderful gift for adults as well. Include items such as get together for coffee this month, watch your child so you can go out to dinner and bouquet of fresh flowers from your flower garden are great ideas.
