Step 1
First, ask the human resource (HR) department for the official guidelines for dressing. Be sure to have them clarify what your company considers business casual. This is important as companies have different guidelines for casual dressing. For example, it could mean tie with a sport coat or polo shirt with khaki slacks.
-
Step 2
When you dress up for work, make sure to check your daily planner to see if you have any official meetings that may require you to wear formal attire and not casual.
-
Step 3
Dressing talks a lot about your personality. It will reflect your professionalism so make sure to dress properly and wear clean, pressed clothes to tell everyone that you mean business.
-
Step 4
Wear a collared shirt and an undershirt when dressing for work, even for casual days. You may want to wear a flannel shirt, linen or band collar shirt. Or you can choose a casual sport coat, polo shirt or a knitted shirt to work. You can wear chinos, khakis or corduroys to work. If you are planning to wear jeans make sure to double check the company’s policy. Even if you've seen someone else do it, it may still be against the rules.
-
Step 5
Ensure that you are wearing a belt, color of which should match with that of your shoes. It will give you a more professional look. As for the socks, make sure to wear one that matches the color of your pants; if not too odd. In some cases, you can also white socks.
-
Step 6
Finally, wear loafers, oxfords or leather boots or shoes to the work for a casual day. Avoid wearing wingtips as they are considered too formal. Sneakers may be too casual, so check with human resources first.

Step 7
Always dress-up appropriately for work. If a company has no official guideline, you may have to look to what others are wearing to get an idea of what dress is acceptable.
