You cooked the artichoke and it's ready to eat. How do you eat it? What part of the artichoke is discarded and what part is eaten? Unless you've eaten artichoke before you might not have a clue.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • cooked artichoke
  1. Step 1
     

    When serving an artichoke make certain you provide each person with a bowl to discard non edible parts of the artichoke.

  2. Step 2
     

    Start by detaching the leaves from the artichoke, the leaves should detach easily when it's cooked.

  3. Step 3
     

    The outer have less edible parts than the inner leaves. Take each leaf and with your teeth scrape from the center toward the tender part, discard uneaten part, continue until all the leaves have been removed.

  4. Step 4
     

    After all the leaves have been removed the heart of the artichoke remains and needs to be trimmed to eat. There is a layer of sharp thistles above the heart, just cut that portion off, and trim the bottom. Now the artichoke heart is ready to eat.

  5. Step 5
     

    Once the artichoke heart has been trimmed, cut into bite size pieces.

Tips & Warnings
  • this is a fun meal for kids and full of fiber.
  • The entire leaf is not edible.
