2. Log into your online brokerage account. If you do not have a brokerage account then you will need to sign up for one. After logging into your account, select the appropriate link if you want to buy or sell stocks online.

3. Determine the type of trade you want to execute. The most common trades are market or limit trades. Your broker should be able to provide you more information on market and limit trades. Some brokers also offer additional trades that are designed for seasoned investors.

4. After you place your trade, check your email for a trade confirmation. If you sold shares then expect the money to be in your account the next day.
