Disconnect your propane tank from your grill. Use a pipe wrench to remove your tank from the grill. Make certain you have the wrench tight around the fitting. Any slippage can damage and strip your fitting, making it hard, if not impossible, to get back on. Slowly rotate the fitting counter clockwise until it comes off.

Weigh your tank. An empty propane tank weighs about 18 pounds and a full tank should weigh in at 35 pounds or more. Set your tank on the bathroom scale. It's safe to say that anything above 18 pounds is available liquid propane.

Estimate your available grilling time. The average two-burner grill burns about one pound of propane every 30 minutes. Multiply every pound you have left by 30, and that's how many minutes of grilling time you have left.
