Step 1
Drink lots of water daily and drink it to thirst. Water = breastmilk. Eat lots of soup too. Avoid carbonated drinks and coffee.
-
Step 2
Nurse your baby often and as needed. Avoid using pacifiers and latch your baby onto your breast instead! When not breastfeeding, pump your milk in bottles and store them in the fridge for use later. Pump frequently to increase milk supply. Even when your breasts don't feel heavy, pump anyway!
-
Step 3
Continue taking prenatal vitamins even when nursing, so you and your baby can get the necessary vitamins and minerals you both need.
You will also need to intake enough calcium, for you and your baby's bones. If your body is calcium deficient, it will deplete it from your bones and your teeth when producing milk. Women who are nursing or not, need 1,000 milligrams per/day. Prenatal vitamins only provide a small amount of calcium. So you either have to eat or drink dairy products or take a calcium supplement to equal that amount. -
Step 4
Get enough rest and relaxation. If you are stressed out, it lowers your milk supply.
-
Step 5
Oatmeal. Studies show that women who are nursing and have eaten oatmeal daily have seen an increase in their milk supply. Some recommend that you should eat two servings per day.

Step 6
Fenugreek. This is an herb that promotes lactation. You can either take it in pill forms or drink teas that contain fenugreek but do not take the pill and tea together. A popular tea that contains fenugreek is called "Organic Mother's Milk". Drinking tea is not a substitute for drinking water though.
