Things You'll Need:
- 1 ¼ cups of cake flour
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 1 ¼ teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ cup butter, softened
- ½ teaspoon vanilla
- ½ cup of milk
- 2 eggs
-
Step 1
Sift the flour with the salt and baking powder. Cream the butter, add the sugar slowly and cream until it is soft and smooth. Next, add the eggs one at a time and beat well after each one until its light and fluffy. Stir in the vanilla. Take turns adding the flour and milk, beginning and ending with the flour. Beat well after each addition.
-
Step 2
Spread mixture into a shallow greased 15 x 10 x ¾ baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean. Cool in pan. After the cake has completely cooled, cut into three equal size pieces crosswise. To make the cream filling, you will need: 2 cups sliced strawberries and 2 quarts of cool whip, mix well.
-
Step 3
Spread over 2 layers of the cake and pile one on top of the other and top with the remaining section. Sprinkle the top lightly with granulated sugar and serve with strawberry sauce.
-
Step 4
Strawberry sauce:
4 teaspoons of cornstarch
½ cup sugar
¼ teaspoon salt
1 cup of water
1 quart of sliced strawberries
Blend the cornstarch with about 2 tablespoons of the cold water. Heat the remaining water and sugar to the boiling point, add the salt and then stir in the blended cornstarch. Cook until the mixture is clear and thick, stirring constantly. Fold in the sliced strawberries. Chill and serve over the top of the cake. Enjoy!
