Step 1
Turn on power button.

If user name and password is required to log-in in Windows XP, please do so.

Check the desktop if My Computer icon is displayed if not, click Start.

Right click My Computer.

Click Manage.

A window (Computer Management) will appear.

Expand Storage. Click the plus sign to collapse or expand.

Click Disk Defragmenter.

Right click the drive you wish to defragment. Example, drive C.

Click Analyze.

Step 11
A window (Disk Defragmenter) will appear and read what it says. If it says; You do not need to defragment this volume. Close it.

Step 12
If it says; You do not need to defragment this volume, click Close it. It means your disk is fine and don't need to be defragmented. Then close Computer Management Window and you may continue to work on something else you want to do.

If the window says; You need to defragment this volume, click Deframent button after the Analyze button.

Step 14
If you wish to defragment your drive even it says; You do not need to defrgment this volume, you can do it; just right click the drive you wish to defrag. Click Defragment then, a new window (Disk Defragmenter) will appear, it will ask you, Do you wish to run Disk Defragmenter now anyway? Click Yes.

Step 15
Wait until it finish defragmenting.

Step 16
When it is finished defragmenting a window (Disk Defragmenter) will appear, and will ask you if you wish to View the Report or Close it.
