Step 1
If you aren't an experienced yogi, take as many yoga classes as possible. Don't pursue yoga certification until you are at an advanced level. Most yoga certification programs require that you have years of experience practicing yoga and have mastered advanced poses.
-
Step 2
Search for yoga instructor certification programs in your area. Make sure that the program you chose is registered with Yoga Alliance. Most yoga studios require that instructors have completed a 200-hour certification from a registered Yoga Alliance school. You can search for registered yoga certification programs in your area at: YogaAlliance.org.
-
Step 3
If you don't live in an area with a Yoga Alliance training program, consider traveling to a yoga center or ashram for an intensive yoga teacher certification program. You can also find these certification programs on the Yoga Alliance Web site: YogaAlliance.org.
-
Step 4
After completing a Yoga Alliance training program, you can apply to become a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT). With this credential, you can apply for instructor positions at yoga studios and health clubs or give private lessons as an independent instructor.
