In a few of my articles I will explain a few words that are a part of the English Language but are often over looked. These terms can be used to broaden your vocabulary and hopefully make you feel smarter by knowing them. This article is about the English word "Abaft".

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

First take a moment to understand what this word means and where it derived from. "Abaft" is a nautical term used by the English that describes toward the Stern. "Abaft" is an adverb meaning "Behind".

  2. Step 2

The word "Abaft" has its roots from Indo-Europe from the word æftan.

  3. Step 3

To use "Abaft" in a sentence one could say: "Look abaft to see what's behind you", or "I was abaft the cruise ship".

  4. Step 4

As always try to use any word that you learn throughout the day so you can get the hang of it... Some may find you more interesting or intelligent the broader your vocabulary becomes. If you use the word in a sentence and someone asks you what it means, don't be afraid to tell them... It is always great to share knowledge with a friend! Please read more of my almost forgotten English words to help keep these words in our language and so that we can broaden our minds.
